The Many Dimensions of the Body of Christ
Liturgies at St. Nicholas embody the vibrancy and spiritual life of the parish. The time, treasure, and talent of our liturgical ministries are evident in abundance: musicians, artists, lectors, ushers, sacristans, Children’s Liturgy of the Word leaders – all join together to manifest the many dimensions and aspects of the Body of Christ. These ministries meet regularly throughout the year to pray, plan and prepare for the Sundays, feasts, and seasons of the liturgical year.
While the work of spiritual life begins with liturgy, it does not end there. Through sacramental preparation, scripture study groups, and adult faith enrichment programs we work toward strengthening and enriching our spiritual life.

Any Catholic who has been confirmed may become a Eucharistic minister. New minister trainings are held twice per year, and new ministers are always welcome. Other than attending one training, the only task is to assist at Mass by ministering either the bread or wine. This is a gentle way to become involved, and it is a very rewarding experience for many of the ministers.

SACRISTANS AND ASSISTANTS
The sacristan lights the candles, arranges the liturgical books, vessels, bread and wine and other materials that are necessary for the celebration of Mass. The sacristan checks to see that the other liturgical ministers are present including Lectors, Eucharistic ministers and altar servers. The sacristan recruits the cross bearer and other ministers if the assigned ministers are not present. After Mass, the sacristan sees that vessels are cleaned and put away. The sacristan needs to be at church 40 minutes prior to the start of Mass.
